Brian TP6
Mr. J is going on a road trip across the east U.S., so we may not meet again. We wondered if we could continue working together in the fall but I didn't know if it was possible because a new set of teflers will come in and will need tutees and such. I suppose Mr. J could have a handful of tutors if he wanted to? During our session we finished up our analysis of a This I Believe essay, worked on specific words I noticed he mispronounces, and learned phrases that made him sound like a native over an esl learner. He pronounced philosophy without the f-sound. He'd say PEEL-loso-PEE. He explained to me that in Korean there is one sound that covers our b-, v-, (and two others … Er, can't remember) sounds, so it's very difficult for him to get away from that when speaking ingles. Even though I will follow up with him on whether we can continue our tutoring sessions in the fall or not, we said our goodbyes. It was a little sad because it sounded like we were agreeing to a divorce. It had a little gravity to it, that doesn't come with a regular average parting. Bet it's all in my mind.
