Jeff Dinert TP7

The culture class that myself, Francis, and Nic did last Thursday was an excellent time, and I think the group learned a little bit about dancing in America, a few new footwork moves, and saw how much fun everyone can have if they get together to learn something new. I am satisfied with how the class went, and I was impressed with the amount of information Francis presented in the first half of class, she was well organized, and had a set amount of material she wanted to cover. She asked a lot of questions which you may have not heard the answers to on the tape, but that someone answered in a subdued Asian voice, and showed that they were listening. Then came my turn to teach and I had a set amount of dance moves I wanted to cover, and some upfront explanation about Hip hop and r & b dance music, but I had a hard time dancing and doing a lot of movement as a demonstration and keeping the lesson on course. This was fine and I got over it, and ended up covering all the dance moves, and getting everyone to participate, and kept the class going from move to move. I think they got the idea that in American music there is a desire to have fun but in hip hop and r and b there is also a desire to be seen and carry yourself with a confidence in how you move as well. I got everyone to do the moves individually and to practice while we did them and to show them kind of how they all came together. It was a bunch to cover in such a short time, and I wish I could have done a whole class on the music, its roots, and the dancing alone, but was grateful for Francis and Nic because It would have been a fun but exhausting class to dance with them all and teach for an hour. Next came Nic and the cupid shuffle, and we had the blessing of having done this at the Dinner, but Nic gave them a brief explanation and we danced out the remainder of the class to the cupid shuffle, all of the whole class together, and closed with asking for questions, and me explaining that if they ever wanted to go dancing and try this stuff I always go and would love to take them. My hopes were that they had fun, they learned to think a little more about the dance music they love and to also try to do those moves to gett better at them and appreciate the dancing all the more. It was so much fun thanks Francis and thanks Nic.
