Jordan – CP4

On July 12th, I met Hamad for a bite to eat after I got out of an observation, and he got out of his class. We walked down to Pitaria with his Tutor, Alex Ramos (a TEFL Summer I grad) and ordered a few pita sandwiches. We talked about the upcoming holiday – Ramadan – which both Alex and Hamad will be celebrating. I asked Hamad to tell me more about how Ramadan is celebrated in Abu Dhabi, especially at night, after the fast is broken. He explained that it is the best time of year – there is so much food and everyone is happy and spending time together. They watch musalsalat, special TV shows that only play during Ramadan, and play football (Soccer) and volleyball outside.
Hamad invited me to go to the mosque with him soon, and I really want to go. He explained the routine for praying in the mosque – washing hands and face, the number of times to go down and up when sitting on the prayer mats, etc. ¬– and I think I could make my way through the service without messing up too bad. I hope I go with him before he leaves for Ramadan (he will be home, visiting his family for the break).
