Jordan - TP2
On July 13th, I met Metab at Starbucks for tutoring. I asked him what he wanted to focus on - what he was having the most problems with in class. He did not understand anything I was saying, or was too shy to attempt to answer. Finally, I broke down and explained my question in Arabic so I could get an understanding of how to best help him. He told me he wanted to be better at speaking, but admitted he did not know very much vocabulary. I explained to him with pictures that we could not practice speaking without increased vocabulary acquisition. I had prepared a sheet of basic vocabulary in English and Arabic for him, which I handed over. I went through the words with him, having him practice correct pronunciation of the English words. We drilled the list a few times. I told him he must study the words on this list so that we could speak in English, even if simple, during our sessions. This took about an hour, so we agreed to take a break before continuing.
