Jeff Dinert TP3

On Wednesday, July 6th myself and my secon Tutoring partner Nakjoon got together to get to know one another and to see how we could be helpful to one another. I found out he is from Soth Korea, and the government of Soth Korea is paying for him to live here and obtain his public administration master's, which he will be beginning study in the Fall at FSU. I also found out that his reading and comprehension are at a high level of eight, but his writing is between 5 and 6 and he was concerned about his writing mostly as the topic of interaction between us. We looked at one of his essays from CIES class, and its corrections and I found out that his ideas are very well thought out, but not well developed, and that aside from missing articles (A, An, the) his writing was very correct. He was disheartened by all the corrections on his work and what he thought must be a poor performance, but I explained that he was being graded more diligently due to his need to move up in ability for impending graduate school, and to match up with his comprehension and reading, his teacher is making sure he works on making sure his ideas are fully developed and consistent all the way through an assignment. I said if anything it showed how good he was at writing already, and that the mobing up another level in ability was difficult and had to be graded for a lot more specifics. He seemed to feel better. For next meeting he sent me an essay he wrote before coming to America, and I am going to correct it, give him feed back, and maybe present some options for sentences and connectivity for him to see another, probably more proper way, and decide how and why he would wantt to implement them. We are going to work on his writing from the past, for his present class work, and maybe give him some more confidence for the Fall at FSU.
